In this article you will learn what identity verification is, why it is necessary and what options you have.
What is identity verification?
Identity verification is the process by which we verify the merchant's identity.
The obligation to identify our clients is imposed on us by Act No. 253/2008 Coll., on certain measures against the legalisation of the proceeds of crime and the financing of terrorism (the "Act").
We have to carry out identity verification before the first switch to the production environment, and during the cooperation whenever details need to be updated (e.g. if the identity document provided has expired).
How can you be identified?
1. In person
at the GoPay premises in České Budějovice (Senovažné nám. 1736, 370 01, České Budějovice),
at the Worldline branch in Prague*,
with a GoPay representative in Bratislava.
You carry out the identification in person with a GoPay representative.
*For a meeting at the Worldline branch, contact our sales team on working days from 9:00 to 15:00 on +420 735 700 488, where we will arrange the date and time of the meeting with you. Worldline's offices are at Rohanské nábřeží 670/17, Prague 8 – Karlín, entrance A, 2nd floor
How to do it
Arrange a meeting.
Bring a completed Identification form and the relevant documents to the meeting and we will then carry out your identification.
You will find more information in the article In-person identity verification.
2. Remotely via a Public deed of identification
You carry out the identification via a Public deed of identification, which you send to us by post once it has been issued by an official.
How to do it
Have a Public deed of identification issued and send us the original or a certified copy, including all attachments, by post.
The officials who can issue a Public deed of identification include:
public administration contact points – CzechPoint,
a regional authority or the municipal authority of a municipality with extended powers,
a notary.
You will find more information in the article Remote identity verification via a Public deed of identification.
3. Remotely over the internet
We will process the identification at GoPay on the basis of a verification payment from your bank account and photographs of documents that you send us by e-mail.
How to do it
Send a verification payment to GOPAY's bank account with your EVČ number, which you received when registering, as the variable symbol.
Send the following to [email protected]:
a double-sided copy of the ID card of the managing director(s),
a double-sided copy of another identity document (passport, driving licence) of the managing director(s),
a printscreen or scan of the statement of the bank account registered in the system and held in your company's name.
You will find more information in the article Remote identity verification over the internet.
Which documents do you need for identity verification?
For in-person identification you need:
a completed Identification form,
an identity document,
a certified power of attorney (in the case of authorised representatives).
For remote identification via a Public deed you need:
a Public deed of identification of a natural person (where you cooperate with GoPay as a natural person),
a Public deed of identification of a legal entity (where you cooperate with GoPay as a legal entity),
an identity document,
an extract from the commercial register,
a certified power of attorney (in the case of authorised representatives).
For remote identification over the internet you need:
a double-sided copy of the ID card of the managing director(s),
a double-sided copy of another identity document (passport, driving licence) of the managing director(s),
a printscreen or scan of the statement of the bank account registered in the system and held in your company's name.
💡 GoPay tip:
The person who signed the contract with GoPay must be identified.
Watch out for the most common mistakes
1. The Public deed of identification must be issued by an official
It is not enough to print the Public deed and send it to us with an officially certified signature.
For the identification to be recognised, the Public deed must be issued by an authorised official.
That means:
a notary,
a regional authority or a municipal authority with extended powers,
public administration contact points – CzechPoint (you will find these at Czech Post branches, for example)
2. Simply filling in and signing the identification form is not enough
The identification form is used to process the identification at an in-person meeting with a GoPay representative.
Without the signature of our representative we cannot accept the identification form for processing the identification.
3. Always state GoPay Czech odštěpný závod as the obliged entity
Never state your own company as the obliged entity – that is not correct.
4. State the correct purpose of the identification
We recommend stating the following text as the purpose of the identification:
Fulfilment of the identification obligation arising from Section 7 of Act No. 253/2008 Coll.
