In this article you will learn what Google Pay is and what you need to do in order to accept payments using Google Pay on the GoPay payment gateway.
What is Google Pay and how does it work?
Google Pay is a payment method that allows easy payments using a card stored in a Google account.
The customer uploads their payment card details to Google. When they then pay, Google passes the details to the payment gateway and the gateway completes the payment without the customer having to have the card with them.
💡 GoPay tip: A payment using Google Pay is de facto a payment card payment. That is why GoPay's fees for a payment via Google Pay are the same as the fees for a card payment.
How do you launch Google Pay on your portal?
The Google Pay payment method is tied to the Payment card payment method. If you have card payments active, you can offer Google Pay to your customers.
After that it is only a question of how you want to present Google Pay to customers.
Do you want to display Google Pay as early as the order?
If you display payment methods separately as early as the order, extend your integration with the new payment method code GPAY, see the current code list of payment methods available in the documentation. That will make the Google Pay payment method available to your customers.
💡 GoPay tip: Do you use the API function that displays active payment methods automatically? In that case we will return the necessary details about Google Pay (such as the full name of the method, the logo, its code and category) in the updated response from the payment gateway. Once the method is activated, simply check that it is present in your basket.
Does the customer select the payment method only at the payment gateway?
If your customers choose the payment method only at the payment gateway, you do not have to do anything at all. Customers will find Google Pay at the gateway in the payment method menu, where all the e-shop's active methods are always displayed.
Which logo and name should you present?
You will find Google's official guide to using the Google Pay logos and names here.
To display the Google Pay option in your basket, we recommend using the label "Google Pay" and the logo shown in the picture below.
The recommended logo is available for download in the article Which payment method logos and names should I use?.
